Prof. Nimeti Kalayci from GAZI University (Türkiye) Visits EPE for Academic Exchange

Time:August 12, 2026 Editor: Source:

From July 3 to August 1, 2026, at the invitation of Professor Lou Chun from the State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion and Low‑Carbon Utilization, Professor Nimeti Kalayci from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, GAZI University, Türkiye, visited our institute for academic exchanges. During her visit, she delivered a special lecture entitled International Academic Exchange in Heat Transfer and Scholar Life in HUST & GAZI, presenting the research progress in the fields of radiative heat transfer, entropy generation and exergy analysis of combustion systems.

During the academic lecture, Professor Kalayci first introduced the geographical profile, historical and cultural features of Türkiye as well as the general information of GAZI University, and shared her academic resume. She then delivered a report centered on the Second Law of Thermodynamics, systematically elaborating on research advances in entropy generation and exergy analysis for high‑temperature combustion systems. She presented the radiative transfer equation and the Discrete Ordinates Method for solving this equation, and discussed the mechanisms of radiative entropy generation in participating media including gas, soot, fume and unburned char particles. Meanwhile, she talked about innovative combustion regimes such as flameless combustion, porous‑media combustion, micro‑combustion and MILD combustion. During her visit to our institute, Professor Kalayci toured the State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion and Low‑Carbon Utilization. She learned about the intelligent sensing technology for in‑furnace temperature field independently developed by the laboratory and discussed approaches for promoting and applying this technology to thermal power plants in Türkiye. In addition, she supervised postgraduate students on the research of simultaneous reconstruction method for in‑furnace combustion temperature field and radiative properties based on deep learning.

In the academic‑exchange session, Professor Kalayci had in‑depth discussions with participating faculty and students on cutting‑edge scientific issues in radiative heat transfer, entropy generation and exergy analysis of combustion systems. This academic event has built a high‑level communication platform for teachers and students of the School of Energy to engage with international scholars. It has boosted discussions on the research and applications of high‑temperature combustion, radiative heat exchange, exergy analysis and other relevant fields. Moreover, it has further strengthened academic cooperation between our university and GAZI University in Türkiye, laying a foundation for subsequent joint publication of academic papers and joint applications for international‑cooperation projects.

Resume of Prof. Nimeti Kalayci

Prof. Nimeti Kalayci entered her academic career as a research assistant at Dumlupınar University (Department of Mechanical Engineering). She has been continuing her studies at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Gazi University since January 2019. She has published a course book on numerical analysis and many papers on radiative heat transfer and holds a national patent. To date, she has supervised 14 students on their theses. The ERASMUS exchange program funded by the European Union (Rence Univ.-France and Dumlupinar Univ.-Turkiye) has enabled the signing of bilateral agreements for the exchange of students and academic staff. She has served as a reviewer for many prestigious journals. Her research areas mainly include the radiative properties and calculation of particles and gases.
