On June 24th, under the invitation of Professor Jingai Shao from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, Associate Professor Xianming Dai from the University of Texas at Dallas and Manager Xin Fen from Real Time Power Inc, USA delivered wonderful academic lectures on "Advancing Energy Sustainability in Thermal Packaging and Decarbonization Systems" and "Monitoring and Optimization of Advanced Gas Turbine Combined Cycle" respectively to the teachers and students in Conference Room N209 of the Clean Energy Building.

First, Associate Professor Xianming Dai presented a lecture on the topic of “Advancing Energy Sustainability in Thermal Packaging and Decarbonization Systems”. Starting from the two primary phase change heat transfer modes: evaporation and condensation, Dr. Dai introduced the research frontiers of existing surface materials and their application prospects in the field of electronic and energy systems. The two heat transfer mechanisms have different requirements on the surface materials. The super-wetted surface is conducive to evaporation, while the super-repellent surface is conducive to condensation. Dr. Dai explained the principles and research challenges of the two heat transfer methods, emphasized the great help of the understanding of basic theories and basic principles for scientific research, and introduced several innovative surfaces and heat transfer systems with special evaporation and condensation capabilities. The application in the field of energy recovery and heat dissipation of electronic devices was also introduced.

Dr. Xin Fen presented a lecture on “Monitoring and Optimization of Advanced Gas Turbine Combined Cycle”. Dr. Xin first introduced her education experience, then introduced Real Time Power Inc, and her main work contents. By three main contents of Air Sonic Inlet Health, Power Capacity Forecasting and Engineering Analysis, she described the process of transforming the latest research results into commercial applications as an engineering manager, explained the repair maintenance and common problems of power plant inlet system in a simple way, and pointed out the connection point and transformation mode between scientific research and practical application.

Students learned about the innovation and breakthroughs in the frontier field of modern science and technology from these two lectures and understood the great role of basic theory and microscopic mechanisms for researchers to improve scientific research ideas and results. They realized the close integration and mutual promotion relationship between practical application and scientific research. More importantly, it was a good opportunity to enhance their confidence in research work, laying a foundation for the future exchange.
