Degree Requirements for Ph.D. Program School of Energy and Power engineering (International Students)

一、培养目标/Goals and objectives

Our Ph.D. program goal prepares students for academic careers and for non-academic work in related fields.Students will acquire breadth and depth of knowledge in a field of study offered by school ofEnergy and Power engineering, demonstrate understanding and proficiency in the field, and write an original and significant research dissertation.

三、学习年限及培养方式/Study years and program time limit

本学科（专业）硕士起点的学术学位博士研究生的基本学习年限为4年，最长学习年限（含休学）不超过6年。

培养方式为全日制，非定向。

Completion of the Ph.D. degree requires a minimum of 4 years of full-time study, and the maximum study years for a doctoral student is SIX years (including schooling suspension)

五、学分要求/Course and credit requirements

硕士起点的学术学位博士总学分要求≥32学分，其中学位课程学分≥13学分，研究环节学分≥19学分。/The Ph.D. from a master’s program requires a total of minimum of 32 credits, which include a minimum of 19 credits for degree courses and 13 research credits.

七、研究环节要求/Research progress

1.The education mode for PhD students employs the supervisor-responsible system, by establishing the supervisor-headed instruction group. The supervisor is responsible for the cultivation and assessment of the PhD candidates.

2.Restriction of Cross1st-level discipline courses

(1) Cross 1st-level discipline courses refer to the other postgraduate courses in the same level. Students are required to attend class and take the examination of the course.

(2) Cross 1st-level discipline courses selected should be different from the courses completed in the postgraduate phase.

3.Literature reading and dissertation proposal report (1 credit) should include:

(1)The source and significance of the topic

(2)Literature review of the research at home and abroad regarding the topic;

(3) The research content, planned research method and technical skills;

(4) The anticipated innovative achievements in theoretical and practical aspects;

(5) Anticipated results;

(6) References

4.Dissertation interim report

PhD candidates are supposed to report to the instruction group or experts the research results of the degree dissertation, and listen to advice and make revision. The dissertation shall not be started before acceptance of the innovative achievements of the research.

5.Participate in academic activities

PhD students must take an active and active part in various academic activities of their own discipline, major or other related majors. During the period of dissertation research, PhD students must get 10 points in the academic activities of the School "Regulations on Participation of Graduate Students in Academic Activities", and will get 1 credit.

6.Publish papers

PhD candidates of our school should make some innovative achievements before applying for the PhD degree. The innovation achievements can be presented in various forms, among which at least one academic paper should be published in JCR 3 or above journal of Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the same time, one of the following conditions should be met.

(1)Publish 1 academic paper in a recognized high-level journal of the discipline (or cross-discipline).

(2)Obtain 1 authorized invention patent.

(3)Officially publish an international or national standard.

(4)As one of the accomplices, obtain second prize or above of a provincial and ministerial level science and technology award.

(5)Make important and innovative achievements in academic frontier or national strategy, and the research results of your dissertation have been awarded by important domestic and international societies or international conferences of this discipline.

Notes：The supervisor of the degree applicant is the first person responsible for the examination of the academic paper. The academic paper of the applicant must be approved by the supervisor before it can be published. The academic achievements as degree requirements must be closely related to the dissertation work. The scientific research achievements as degree requirements must be under the guidance of advisors, with Huazhong University of Science and Technology being the first institute. The applicant is required to be the first author (if the advisor is the first author, the applicant can be the second author).

八、学位论文要求/Dissertation

Doctoral dissertation should be a systematic and complete academic article, with complete content structure, clear logic, evidenced discussion, real data, smooth sentences, and full workload to meet the writing requirements of the university's dissertation.

Application for doctoral dissertation defense and qualification review.

The supervisor or the instruction group conducts doctoral dissertation qualification review.

Basic requirements of dissertation defense application:

(1) Get all the required credits;

(2) Complete the dissertation proposal;

(3) Complete the dissertation interim report;

(4) Publish the required number of papers in journals;

(5) Complete the dissertation writing;

(6) Pass the experts review both inside or outside the university.

九、毕业结业及授予学位要求/Diploma and Degree requirements

After completing the learning content of the training plan and passing the dissertation defense, PhD students having met the requirements for graduation will be allowed to graduate after being approved by the academic degree review committee of the school. PhD degree will be conferred after being voted and approved by the academic degree review committee of HUST.
