In order to improve the paper writing ability of graduate students and promote their writing correctly and standardized, on December 29th, Professor Shao Jingai invited Professors Elena Krivoshapkina and Pavel Krivoshapkina from ITMO University in Russia to give online English
lectures on the paper writing standards and common paper writing issues for students.
Firstly, Professor Pavel explained several important steps of paper writing to us based on his own personal experience, including the desired outcome in mind, the description of the logical flow and narrative, and emphasized several key points that are easily overlooked in paper writing, recommending that do not straightforwardly retell project's chronological progression in real-time. Consider peer review comments from the perspective and utilize this feedback to enhance the work.
Professor Elena also gave a special lecture titled "Formal Writing", providing a comprehensive and detailed interpretation of the written documents throughout the entire process of publishing the paper. The lecture is divided into six parts, which respectively introduce the writing methods of email, motivation letter, cover letter, and manuscripts, and explain the general writing reminders and tips and tricks for manuscript writing. During the lecture, Professor Elena provided a detailed introduction to the writing, structure, content, and common mistakes of emails, motivational letters, cover letters, and manuscripts, and focused on sharing tips and tricks for manuscript writing, such as word choice and sentence structure, tenses and voice. After the lecture, Professor Shao Jingai and several graduate students exchanged and discussed common problems in English paper writing with Professor Elena.
After this lecture, the students all felt greatly benefited and inspired, and gained a deeper understanding of the writing standards and points to pay attention to in the paper writing. Their understanding of the structure and organization of the paper structure was further enhanced.
