On October 20, 2021, mobilization meeting of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) 2020 and meeting on scientific research integrity was held in the conference room 201, Power Building. Liu Wei, vice dean of Research Development Office, HUST, You Chao and Xu Xinsheng, project directors, were invited to attend the meeting. Yao Hong, secretary of the Party Committee of EPE, Luo Xiaobing, dean of EPE, Fang Haisheng, vice dean of EPE, and teachers and students attended the meeting, which was presided over by Fang Haisheng.
Liu Wei introduced the current policy of NSFC, reviewed the national fund projects of HUST in recent years, and analyzed the fund application and approval in EPE. He praised the achievements made by EPE in recent years, and also pointed out that EPE should pay more attention to key projects and projects related to talents. Liu asserted that HUST attaches great importance to the training of scientific research talents. In an effort to stimulate the development of outstanding talents, HUST will launch a program for scientific researchers, continuously supporting talents with great development potential. Finally, Liu introduced the situation of scientific research integrity and advocated an upright atmosphere of academic research. He encouraged that faculty should have research spirit and focus on interdisciplinary research, actively participate in academic conferences and have exchanges with peers, in order to improve application quality and make breakthroughs.
The leaders of the school made a detailed report on the application of the national fund projects of EPE, especially making in-depth analyses on the key and talent projects. Although we have achieved great results in recent years, ranking among the top within the discipline in the HUST and the whole country, we lack of major projects and funding. Therefore, we should do a good job in the organization and give full play of our teams’ strength to overcome obstacles.
In the discussion session, teachers shared their experience while applying for national fund projects. They emphasized that during the process, persistence in the right direction, a solid foundation, good opportunity, and opinions from different experts are very significant. Finally, the leaders of EPE stressed that the integrity of scientific research should be put in the first place, which is a prerequisite for carrying out scientific work.
