On June 17, 2021, the appointment ceremony for Dr. Xue Xiaogang, Dean of the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE), as a part-time professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) was held, where He Baohua, Dean of the Institute of Advanced Technology and Equipment of HUST, and Yao Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of EPE, jointly issued a letter of appointment to Prof. Xue Xiaogang.
Xue Xiaogang, Doc., researcher, doctoral supervisor, born in December 1966, is a native of Jingchuan, Gansu Province. Enjoying State Council Special Allowance, he graduated from the Department of Engineering Physics of Tsinghua University in 1989, and has served as Director of the research office of the CIAE Department of Reactor Engineering & Technology, Head of the CIAE Department of Reactor Engineering & Technology, and Director of the System Engineering Department of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) since 1995. Currently, he is Dean of CIAE, as well as a member of the professional group of the Commission of Science and Technology under the Central Military Commission (CMC) and Director of the Nuclear Material Innovation Center of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry, etc. Having long been engaged in scientific research on reactor physics, nuclear safety, and nuclear engineering organization and management, Prof. Xue has been awarded the title of "One Hundred Outstanding Masters & Doctors" in national defense science and technology industry, and the title of "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions to Science and Technology Industry for National Defense, selected as a national candidate for the“111 Plan”, a talent introduction project, and "511 Plan", New Century Ten Million Talents Project, and won various awards such as the Chinese Military Science and Technology Progress Award and the National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award.
Prof. Xue Xiaogang expressed his gratitude for being admitted as a part-time professor of HUST. He said that he attaches great importance to being a part-time Prof. in HUST and will work on making contributions to further promoting in-depth cooperation between HUST and CIAE in nuclear science and technology, and supporting the development of related majors of HUST and the construction of its first-class disciplines, to jointly cultivate more talents for nuclear science and technology study in China.
The appointment ceremony was presided over by He Baohua, Dean of Institute of Advanced Technology and Equipment of HUST. Relevant leaders of the CIAE management department, Prof. Yang Jun, Deputy Dean of EPE, and representatives of teachers and students from EPE, attended the ceremony.
The CIAE affiliated to CNNC, is the birthplace of China’s nuclear science and technology industry and the base for China's national defense nuclear research, nuclear energy D&R, and nuclear basic research innovation. Besides, it has developed multiple S&T innovation platforms such as China Experimental Fast Reactor (CEFR), China Advanced Research Reactor (CARR), Beijing Radioactive Nuclear Beam Facility (BRNBF), and Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Radiochemical Experimental Facility (CRARL) for China’s national defense technology, advanced nuclear energy development, nuclear basic and common technologies, nuclear technology application and industrialization. The HUST has engaged in close cooperation with the CIAE in proton radiotherapy equipment development, a national key research and development program, and ITER. In the future, it is expected to continue in-depth scientific research and industry-education integration with even more related disciplines of HUST.
Prof. Xue Xiaogang and his entourage visited the Institute of Applied Electromagnetic Engineering of HUST and Academician Fan Mingwu, former Dean of CIAE and former President of HUST.
