On the morning of September 5, the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Technology (DNET) of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) held 2021 exchange forum on cognition of nuclear engineering and technology in Power Building 402. The faculties of the department and Associate Professor Hu Bangda from the HUST Law School attended the symposium, along with students of all grades of the department, including the freshmen.
First of all, Yang Jun, Deputy Dean of EPE and Director of the DNET, gave a lecture entitled "Approaching Nuclear Science and Technology: Cultivation of Leading Talents in the Discipline Against the Backdrop of Achieving Carbon Neutrality", introducing the wide application of nuclear science and technology. In the context of the current carbon neutrality goal and aerospace, ocean, and polar exploration, graduates of nuclear engineering and nuclear technology are promising. They were thereby encouraged to study hard during the precious four years, to acquire knowledge and abilities useful for a lifetime. Yang Zhangcan, Deputy Director of DNET, introduced the discipline in simple terms, including the employment prospects of the nuclear majors, the units and companies the previous graduates have joined, the curriculum, awards, and internships of the department. Secondly, Associate Professor Hu Bangda from the HUST Law School gave a lecture entitled " Code of Conduct and Responsibilities of Nuclear Community", introducing the Nuclear Community, its code of conduct, the basic principles, major institutional measures to ensure nuclear security, and nuclear non-proliferation. In addition, Mr. Hu popularized various laws and regulations like the International Atomic Energy Agency Statute, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), as well as China's Nuclear Safety in urgent need of promulgation, with a view to further improving the nuclear engineering students' body of knowledge. Finally, the teachers and students from the nuclear department had an interactive exchange on study, postgraduate recommendation, campus life, and scientific research during the four-year life in the university. Gan Ao, the representative of the department, shared his experience and insights gained during university life.
On the evening of that day, just the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the 2021 freshmen of the nuclear engineering department held a class meeting to celebrate the festival. Xu Lejin, the class advisor, prepared moon cakes customized by the HUST for the freshmen, and Yin Suping, the advisor of the postgraduate class, prepared a Mid-Autumn Festival greeting card for each one present. Yang Jun presented signed books at the scene such as "Approach to Nuclear Science and Technology" and "What to Learn in University" to the 2021 freshmen, expecting that they study hard, developing into eminent personages of their motherland. Meanwhile, teachers and students had a lively exchange on various issues of concern, and the students showed great enthusiasm for future learning and campus life, and also developed a keen interest in the major they have chosen.
