On July 7, 2022, the opening ceremony of the “joint technology center for air conditioning” organized by HUST and Air Conditioning Division, Xiaomi Corporation project team was held in China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE), HUST. The ceremony was attended by Lin Lei, Dean of the Institute of Applied Technology, HUST, and Zhang Feng, Partner and Senior Vice President of Xiaomi Corporation. Lin Lei said that the collaboration with Xiaomi Corporation reflects the university’s philosophy of seeking support by offering services and looking for cooperation during the process of development. He hoped to strengthen the cooperation between HUST and industries. The Research Development Office of HUST will further provide services for HUST-enterprises cooperation by applying intellectual property rights to industries and pursuing academic development through cooperation.
Luo Xiaobing, Dean of the School of Energy and Power Engineering (EPE), HUST pointed out that research conducted by our professors is strong support for Xiaomi’s technology development. The major of energy and power engineering at HUST boasts a high reputation and strong faculty strength in China. He hoped to deepen the collaboration to boost development.
Zhang Feng noted that EPE has a good reputation in technology application and has yielded fruitful results. Cooperating with HUST is a good beginning to integrate academic research into applications in industries and serve society.
In the opening ceremony, Fang Haisheng, Vice Dean of EPE, HUST, and Xie Junlong, Professor of EPE, HUST, reported the overall situation, requirements, technology exchange of the project, including AC heat exchanger small diameter replacement technology, outdoor AC unit noise reduction technology, optimization of centrifugal fan duct, and electric vehicle thermal management, which have been applied during the phase I of the project. Cai Shanshan, Associate Professor of EPE, HUST reported the research progress and results in phase I.
Both sides had an in-depth discussion after the opening ceremony and agreed that in phase II, technology would be improved based on the well-equipped laboratories to meet the needs in AC efficiency, noise, comfort, and health.
