On October 5, “Forging ahead for seven decades, Dual carbon goals powering a new era”: Conference on celebrating the 70th anniversary of EPE was held successfully. Xie Xiaolin, Vice President of HUST, attended the conference, which was presided over by Yao Hong, Secretary of the School Party Committee.
First of all, the promotional video Fireworks was played at the conference, showing the achievements and progress EPE has made in the past seven decades.
Xie Xiaolin, Vice President of HUST, delivered a congratulatory speech at the conference. He mentioned that as one of the schools founded by Huazhong Institute of Technology (HIT), EPE has made outstanding achievements in scientific research, discipline construction, student training, and social services and has made contributions to national and university development. He hoped that EPE would take the 70th anniversary as a good opportunity and a starting point to gather the strength of alumni at home and abroad, faculty, staff, students, and people from all walks of life with a spirit of unity, so as to build a world-class discipline and would be ranked as a top discipline worldwide as soon as possible.
Xie Xiaolin, on behalf of HUST, presented a certificate to Sichuan Air Separation Group at the award ceremony. For a long time, alumni at home and abroad and enterprises have contributed a lot to the development of the school, ranging from donations and scholarships, to the great support for the construction of scientific platforms, the Donli Building, and the Clean Energy Building. EPE expresses its heartfelt gratitude to them for their outstanding contributions!
Over 70 years, EPE has trained over 25 thousand graduates, some of whom have become academic experts, political elites, and industrial leaders. To set up advanced models, further gather the strength of alumni, and promote collaboration with alumni and enterprises, EPE presented the first batch of “Outstanding contribution Award” (Cen Kefa, Shan Jinming), “Distinguished Professor” (Yu Zida, Tu Jianhua, Leng Wenjun, Xiong Youhui, Li Songbai), and “Enterprises Tutor” (Wang Rendong, Wei Bin, Chen Xiufeng, Huang Ping, Liang Rui, Zhang Qun, Zhao Shuying, Feng Wenbiao, Peng Qian, Jiang Rong). In the future, EPE will award alumni the certificates mentioned above occasionally.
In recent years, EPE has attached great importance to training students’ humanistic and artistic qualities. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of EPE, Huang Wenjie and other graduates composed an original song Powering the future to express their nostalgia for college days, and their good wishes for the better development of HUST.
Another promotional video To those Researchers Striving for Breakthrough was played at the beginning of the second session, illustrating the aspiration and belief of experts such as Ma Yuyi, Liu Ying, and Cheng LiangJun to lay a strong foundation for the discipline. The video witnessed the responsibility and mission of EPEers for generations to serve the national strategy.
Luo Xiaobing, Dean of EPE, made a report on the development of EPE. He reviewed the fruitful achievements of the school in the past 70 years, introduced the academic advantages, first-class students and faculty, and scientific and international cooperation platforms. He noted that centered on “dual carbon goals”, we would train more innovation-oriented talents and develop world-class discipline. He hoped alumni to continue to support the development of the school, and carry out more exchanges and cooperation for better development.
Xiong Youhui, a graduate in 2000 with a doctoral degree, and chairman of Cubic Sensor and Instrument Co., Ltd., gave a speech on the topic of Technology Innovation, Breakthroughs & Core Technology. Through sharing a story related to instrument R & D, he emphasized the importance of core technology and innovation. He also proposed suggestions on new engineering, entrepreneurship education, and scientific and technological innovation.
Yang Ronggui, Professor of EPE, made a report entitled Energy Storage Science and Engineering: Research Progress & Discipline Construction. Focusing on the development of energy storage discipline, Prof. Yang shared his perspectives from five aspects, including strategic tasks, high-temperature thermal energy storage technology, electrochemical energy storage technology, hydrogen energy technology, and energy storage discipline development.
During the discussion session, alumni representatives expressed their gratitude to the school and gave suggestions on how to train talents and develop disciplines.
The Conference on celebrating the 70th anniversary of EPE witnessed the strenuous efforts made and firm steps taken by the school, showed the deep and lasting friendship among alumni, and further advanced the better and faster development of the school and alumni.
